Hamilton International Sports Trust

Hamilton International Sports Trust (HIST) was established in 1986 to provide financial support to sports men and women who:

  • Compete at international level representing Scotland or Great Britain
  • Are members of Scottish or British squads
  • Live in the area of the former Hamilton District, including Ashgill, Blantyre, Bothwell, Ferniegair, Hamilton, Larkhall, Netherburn, Quarter, Stonehouse and part of Uddingston.

The Trust was set up in order to provide funding that would make a real difference, enabling talented sports competitors to realise their potential at international level representing Scotland or Great Britain as a whole.

The Trust is administered by a committee of trustees including representatives from South Lanarkshire Leisure, local business, South Lanarkshire Council and Hamilton Sports Council. The Trust raises money chiefly through an annual golf tournament and through donations.

The Trust meets four times a year to evaluate applications for financial support and to award grants and scholarships.

HIST awards grants for:

  • Participation in competitions where the applicant is representing Scotland or Great Britain
  • Annual scholarships towards the cost of equipment, training and coaching.

For further information about the Trust and for application forms, please contact the HIST Secretary Hugh Waters at 01698 476108 or e-mail tracy.mackie@southlanarkshireleisure.co.uk
